The Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North (RAIPON), which functions as the umbrella organization for the majority of Indigenous Peoples in the Russian North, has had its activities suspended for six months by the Russian Ministry of Justice.





RAIPON office receives many callings and letters from russian and international partners' organizations that express their deep concerns and support to RAIPON with regards to Ministry of Justice decision to stop RAIPON activity.
The Evenk community “Dylacha” intends to raise at least one thousand signatures on a petition to the Head of the Republic of Buryatia and the President of the Russian Federation. Today, the elders of the community have arranged a special meeting where they announced that the accusations from the law enforcement authorities on theft of jade by the community are “nonsense” and a “discrimination of the Evenk people.”
The conference on the issues around the Evenk Community “Dylacha” will be held in the Public Chamber of Russia (Moscow, Miusskaya square 7, building №1) at 11 am October 8. The members of the family clan have asked the Public Chamber of Russia in order to provide help and support.
On Tuesday, September 11 the Center for Sami Studies, University of Tromso and Russian Association of the Indigenous Peoples of the North (RAIPON) signed an agreement to enhance cooperation between the two partners.
