The accident at the drilling platform DeepWater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico which resulted to oil blowing out, about 100 thousand tones already, is unequalled in terms of scale of ecological and social-economic consequences. Despite the all-nation campaign to liquidate the spill, enormous resources attracted and favorable hydrometerological conditions, all attempts have been made so far to stop the oil spill from the killed well and effectively liquidate the oil pollution failed. The spilled oil has covered a significant part of water space of the gulf, polluted its coast and the deep-water zone.

The report on the state of the indigenous peoples was presented worldwide on January 14th in Mexico City, Bogota, Rio-de-Janeiro, Moscow, Brussels and at UN Headquarters in New-York. This publication is a cooperative effort of independent experts working with the Secretariat of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Subsequent launches are also being prepared in Sydney, Johannesburg and Manila.

The international conference “Social responsibility of business and state-private partnership”, organized by the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Regional Development and administration of the Novosibirsk region under the patronage of the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District and of the Canadian Ministry of  Indian Affairs and Northern Development, was held in Novosibirsk on November 23-24.
